STEMVillage Summer Camp – Week 1, Day 4 Highlights
7/10/20252 min read
On Day 4 of STEMVillage, campers combined curiosity with creativity to explore motion, electricity, and communication. With the final day approaching, today’s activities pushed students to apply all they’ve learned so far in hands-on builds and thoughtful presentations.
The morning began with solar-powered cars. Campers assembled small vehicles with DC motors and solar panels, learning how sunlight is converted into motion through basic circuits. As they tested their cars and adjusted gears, wheels, and panel angles, they gained a deeper appreciation for renewable energy and the real-world applications of electrical engineering.
Next, students tackled the challenge of designing fan-powered boats that could float and move across water. Using foam, recycled materials, and battery-powered fans, they explored key physics concepts like buoyancy, water tension, and alternative propulsion systems. Some boats zipped, some drifted, and a few capsized—but all offered lessons in testing, refining, and thinking creatively.
To wrap up the day, campers began preparing science fair-style posters to explain their projects and design choices. This activity wasn’t just about showing what they built—it encouraged students to practice public speaking, reflect on the design process, and step into leadership roles as presenters. Watching them confidently explain their work to peers and instructors was a proud moment for everyone.
Stay tuned for our final recap tomorrow as we close out an incredible first week of STEMVillage!
